let's talk real for a minute. NO woman likes to be told how big she is. i don't care if she is nine months pregnant carrying quads. guaranteed she doesn't want to hear that she is huge. it just doesn't feel nice... especially in a society where body image plays such a huge role in the life of a female. she also doesn't want to think about the hurdle she'll have to overcome in an attempt to get her pre-pregnancy body back.
that being said, pregnancy does a number on a woman's body. things stretch and move. there are marks and dark spots on the skin. bumps, lumps, and veins leap up and out. hormones cause hair to grow in places it didn't exist before. the gas is real... i could go on. but ninety percent of the time, a pregnant woman isn't exactly feeling her sexiest. so PLEASE, i beg of you onlooker, do NOT make her feel worse by mentioning how "early she popped" or how you "didn't have a belly until you were at least six months pregnant" or ask her if she's sure she isn't carrying twins when you know (and trust me, she knows) she's not... this goes for ANY pregnant woman... and yes, i'm going to go there, but this is ESPECIALLY true for any woman who has experienced a miscarriage in the past. i can only really speak for myself, so i'll switch tenses here: I AM ALREADY A NERVOUS FUCKING WRECK. i cannot workout, or move much for that fact. YES, i know that i have a belly. i can fucking look down and see it myself. YES, i know i've put on a little more weight than most gals at 16 weeks. BUT YOU KNOW WHAT?! I'VE MADE IT THIS FAR WITH LITTLE BABE STILL BEING VIABLE AND FOR THAT, I AM THANKFUL :) so... you can kindly take you comments about my body and shove them up your ass. thank you!

i've been quiet because... i'm happy to report that there isn't much to report. things seem to be progressing nicely (yay!). in fact, i don't head back to the doctor until june 20th, which seems like a lifetime from now!
in order to ease the wait period, i bought a groupon for a pocket fetal doppler machine. it's similar to the one that the doctor uses, only much, much shittier lol. this one is only 3 megahertz, but it does have a digital readout if and when you do find a fetal heartbeat. lots of doctors (mine included) really, strongly suggest NOT buying one because if a woman doesn't find the heartbeat, they tend to freak out. but i recognize that this isn't a medical grade piece of diagnostic equipment and there is a high user-error rate, so with that in mind, i'm just using it as something fun to see if it'll work. so far, it hasn't, but i'm proud to report that i haven't flipped a bitch (yet)! i did, however, experience a serious shooting pain in my tailbone area. acupuncture has helped, but not nearly as much as the free neonatal massage i received! (side note: most spas won't let you get one until you are farther into the second trimester, but this particular one had a specialist and let me just tell you - it was so worth it!) turns out that progesterone releases a hormone called "relaxin" (hah) which, ironically, causes your muscles to relax, so that your body can literally stretch. lower back pain, and even sciatica, are super common during pregnancy. because it was so bothersome during most days, i purchases an upsie belly by belly bandit. it's a maternity support band that (a) lifts up your heavy, growing belly, and (b) causes compression to help relieve the back pain. the best part about this particular one is that it comes with a hot/cold pack that you can slip into a back pocket for added relief! if anyone out there knows of other pregnancy must-haves, PLEASE let me know :) |
